With Superstar’s Kabali turning out to be a hit, rumours that Amitabh Bachchan is likely to reprise Rajinikanth’s role in the Hindi remake of the film are doing the rounds. However, nothing has been finalised yet. But a few of Big B’s films — Deewaar (1975), Don (1978) and Namak Halal (1982) have been remade in Tamil with Rajinikanth playing the lead in Thee (1981), Billa (1980) and Velaikaaran (1987).
It’s well-known that Rajinikanth and the senior Amitabh share mutual adulation. The Hindi version of Kabali didn’t do well in the box-office, so, anything could happen. Just think who else could perfectly play a gangster with that salt-and-pepper look!
Superstar thanks his fans
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth has thanked his crew, the audience, theatre owners, media and distributors, among the rest, for the success of his latest gangster flick, Kabali. His statement to the press reads: “I wanted rest because I was working non-stop for Pa Ranjith’s Kabali and Shankar’s 2.0. I was off to the US on a two-month trip with my daughter Aishwaryaa Dhanush. I also had to undergo a few medical tests. I’m back on track now.” About Kabali, he said, “I heard that the film was a huge hit in America, but to watch and experience it in person gives me immense happiness.” Superstar’s handwritten note, which ended with a “magizhchi,” has gone viral on social media. However, there was a minor mistake in the letter — it was dated 26.07.2017. As expected, Twitter and Facebook were abuzz with comments like ‘Only Rajini can write a letter one year ahead of time’. However, the mistake was later rectified.
Vairamuthu clarifies
Renowned lyricist Vairamuthu had irked fans of Rajinikanth as he called Kabali a failure at a recent event in the city. However, on Tuesday, Vairamuthu issued a statement saying that he misspoke as he was upset and emotional.
