From Balika Vadhu to Bollywood, Dishank Arora does a neat stepover

'Balika Vadhu' actor Dishank Arora is the latest TV star to try a step over into Bollywood. The talented actor who has done popular TV serials like 'Balika Vadhu', 'Punar Vivah' and 'Kaisi Yeh Yarriyan' will make his Bollywood debut with 'Missing on a Weekend' which releases on July 1.

In an interview with newindianexpress.com, Arora talks about his upcoming film and acting inspirations.

What inspired you to get into acting?

Acting was something that I have always wanted to do. It was a passion. As a kid, I used to mimic famous actors. While I was working with Bank Of America, all my friends used to encourage me to take up acting as a profession.  Even though you were approached by various filmmakers, you chose 'Missing on a Weekend' for your debut.

What is so special about this role?

I am playing an investigating officer in the movie. His name is Ajay Khondse. This is a role I have never played on screen before. I found this very challenging and I think it will broaden my horizon as an actor.

Now that you are stepping into Bollywood, will you continue to work for television?

Yes, of course. Television is where I started from, and I love it.  How is television different from films? In television, you have the power to surprise because it is an ongoing project; actors do their best work on television because TV is becoming a writers' medium. The biggest film stars of tomorrow are on TV now. Whereas in movies you play different roles, but it's always limited to a certain extent.   Tell us something about 'Missing on a Weekend'. It's a murder mystery in which a group of friends goes to Goa where they end up in trouble after getting involved with the drug mafia.

Who would you like to work with in films?

I would love to work with Salman sir, Amitabhji, Naseer sir, Shahrukh sir.

How did your television experience help you in your first Bollywood project?

Like I mentioned, television is an ongoing project. Here we learn a lot. It has taught me how to play different characters.  'Balika Vadhu' recently entered the Limca Book of Records with 2000 episodes.

What do you feel about that?

I am over the moon. To be working in a show that is in the Limca Book of Records makes me proud.  You have done various popular serials like 'Balika Vadhu', 'Punar Vivah', 'Kaisi Yeh Yaariyan' and 'Love Ne Mila Di Jodi'.

Which is your favorite role so far?

Shivam in 'Balika Vadhu'.  What are your upcoming projects? Well, I am in talks with a couple of film makers. Nothing is concrete as of now.
