While denying reports of recovering actor Irrfan Khan planning to shoot for Hindi Medium 2 in December, his spokesperson on Wednesday issued a statement announcing the possibility of Irrfan's return to India in November.
“The story floating about Irrfan starting Hindi Medium 2 shoot in December are all based on speculations. However there is a possibility of him returning to India after Diwali," it read.
Irrfan was diagnosed with neuroendrocrine tumour earlier this year (he publicly announced his condition on March 5 on Twitter) and has since been seeking cancer treatment in the UK. Secondary accounts from close friends and colleagues — such as directors Vishal Bhardwaj, Akarsh Khurrana and Shoojit Sircar — have suggested a steady recovery of the actor's health.
Released in 2017, Hindi Medium was a satirical comedy-drama directed by Saket Chaudhary and starring Irrfan and Saba Qamar. The film, which explored themes of social mobility, parenting and education, was declared a sleeper hit in India and China with a collective box-office collection of over Rs. 300 crores. The film was a remake of the 2015 Malayalam film Salt Mango Tree.
Plans for a sequel to Hindi Medium were confirmed by producer Dinesh Vijan in January 2018.
