BANGALORE: These days many cine artistes don’t turn up even for their own commitments, forget about social causes. But it’s not that film stars have no concern for social cause,a few of them are always ready to spare a few hours for the underprivileged. Pooja Gandhi, the heartthrob of Kannada cine buffs is one among them.

More than 600 children from the nearby slums at Cox Town had the privilege to get autographs, handshakes and notebooks from Pooja. She was the chief guest along with the national award winner Tara at this occassion, which was organised by Bharatinagar Residents’ Forum. While Tara, along with her husband, was seen rushing from the venue to a BJP meeting, Pooja waited to spend a few more minutes with the children.

``I was impressed by the social service done by Ravi of Bharatinagar Residents’ Forum. He has been doing a good job. I had attended a similar programme last year too. It is nice to spend a few hours with innocent children,’’ says Pooja with a smile, when asked about what made Pooja to come all the way to Cox Town from Padmanabha Nagar.

What is her advice to children:``I want them to focus on education because education plays a key role in their future.

They should realise the hardship of their parents who toil day and night to provide education to them. They should work hard to score good marks in exams,’’ says Pooja.

Speaking on the occasion, NS Ravi, president of Bharathinagar Residents’ Forum has said that it was the 10th year that the association was organising free notebook distribution. ``We have been distributing the note books for the children of economically poor families. We will continue to do it because we know the value of education. Distributing notebooks will be a small contribution from our association,’’ says Ravi.
