Fails to impress

Naa Raani Nee Maharaani was earlier declared as the re-make of the Malashree-starred Rani Maharani that was released around two decades ago. Rani Maharani established Ramamurthy as a director in Sandalwood apart from bringing name and fame to Malashree.

However, if the quality of Naa Raani Nee Maharaani is of any indication, the movie has the potential to ruin all the opportunities (if there are any), falling Ramamurthy’s way.

The movie also has the potential to be on the list of movies starring Pooja Gandhi that crashed at the box-office beyond redemption.

A number of sequences in the movie prove that Ramamurthy is not yet ready to sail through with the wind and also lacks the ability to feel the pulse of the audience. The script is incongruous and screenplay tests the audience’s patience.

A sequence from the movie depicting the heroine of a movie being kidnapped by a group of children from the village, is hard to imagine.

The director, who is not only ready to believe the in existence of such innocent character but also attempts to impose his age-old opinion on gullible audience, deserves sympathy.

T here is no richness in the movie except a club sequence and a bungalow.

Vinay Chandra, who makes his debut as the music director, fails terribly.

Except the song, Koogo kolige khaara masaale..., the movie has nothing to revel about its music.

Pooja Gandhi plays a double role in Naa Raani Nee Maharaani, which is about Rani (Pooja Gandhi), the daughter of a teacher, who has no better work to do except lead a group of naughty children. Rani and her gang end up stealing Raghu’s (Akshay) bag.

Meanwhile, a film unit arrives at the village and stays at Raghu’s house for shooting a few sequences with Pooja (Pooja Gandhi's second character in the movie) as the heroine.

Meanwhile, Rani wants to act in the movie and her supporters manipulate things in her favour. They kidnap Pooja and ensure that Rani gets to work in the movie.

After the shooting is over, Rani wishes to go back to her home but Pooja wants to stay back in the village.

At this juncture, the director introduces a sequence explaining how Pooja’s relatives want to exploit her for the sake of money.

Pooja has tried her level best to perform well, but has failed. The movie is worth watching if you want to see how Pooja manages to play the dual character.
