A Bharat Ratna for Dr Rajkumar?

Karnataka government intends to recommend the thesapian for the highest civilian award for his contribution to cinema.

BANGALORE: The State Government plans to recommend thespian Dr Rajkumar’s name for Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of the country for his outstanding contribution to the film industry.

Present at the 83rd birth anniversary of Dr Rajkumar, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa made this announcement here on Sunday. To acknowledge his contribution to the Kannada cinema and culture, the government has decided to recommend Rajkumar’s name to Bharat Ratna. The CM also added they would take a decision in this regard very soon. He assured to take steps to speed-up work on Rajkumar memorial, being constructed at the actor’s samadhi at Kanteerava Studio.

BJP national general secretary H N Ananth Kumar, also present at the event, urged the government to recommend Kannada matinee idol’s name for Bharath Ratna award.

Noted Kannada playwright Dr Chandrashekhar Kambar also spoke on the occasion.
