Kool is Ganesh’s maiden movie as a director.
Although Ganesh succeeded in creating a lot of hype over his maiden venture prior to its release, he failed miserably to live up to the expectations of his hardcore fans.
Ganesh, as an individual, is free to select and practice any profession but it is his responsibility to meet the expectations of his fans. If the quality of this movie is anything to go by, it seems that Ganesh was in a terrible hurry to become a director. It was his overconfidence and ambition that made him shoulder the responsibility of handling the megaphone as soon as director Mussanje Mahesh made a forcible exit from the film when producer Shilpa Ganesh disagreed with him on many issues.
The problem with Kool is the weak script and incongruous screenplay. It is not clear why Ganesh had selected a script that showcases students copying in exams as an achievement. It has also depicted teachers in poor light. For example, a beautiful lady lecturer falls in love with a student like Sadhu Kokila. This student is a rowdy. Smitten by lady lecturer’s beauty, he joins a college as a student. The next scene is pretty miserable and neither helps students nor teachers who want to watch this movie.
The other unconvincing scene is where Ganesh gets injured in a road accident.
His friends shift him to a hospital but we see him playing guitar at another location in the disguise of a security guard’s son.
It seems that stunt sequences are included just to project Ganesh as a mass hero. The other lacunae is the absence of villain character.
Audience have to depend on Sharan for a relief from monotonous narration. It is he who does justice with his selection as a Suicide Suresh.
The movie is about Rahul (Ganesh), a college student who wants to pass his exams without working hard for it. Kajol (Sahana) also joins the same college and creates problems for Rahul and his friends. Later, both fall in love.
Meanwhile, Rahul gets injured in a road accident and gets admitted to a hospital.
Doctor declares him ‘dead’. Then the scene shifts to a village where Manohar alias MJ (Ganesh) plays guitar and dances. He gets shelter at Kajol’s grandparents’ house. After a few days, Kajol also comes to the same place. Manohar tries for Kajol’s hand. At this juncture, the director narrates what made Rahul to pretend as Manohar.
Cinematographer Ratnavel has done a neat job behind the camera. V Harikirishna’s music is a treat to the ears.
The movie is worth watching if you want to see beautiful foreign locations. You lose nothing if you miss it.
