Rakesh, who just played a Brahmin in 'Parie' has chosen the unconventional route again in Puneeth Rajkumar's 'Yaare Kogadali'. The actor, who played a negative role in 'Alemari' is all set to take up the challenge to be a bad boy. What makes him an antagonist when he is well received as a hero?
“Sometimes it is good to be bad,” says Rakesh, who feels that he has been getting different shades of character in each film. “This helps me to be flexible and fall into any category and I am waiting to prove myself that I can fit into different roles,” he adds.
In fact, this young hero got a call from Rajkumar’s home banner after they watched his performance in 'Alemari'. “They liked my role and asked me whether I would want to don the villain's cap again with Appu (Puneeth Rajkumar) and I immediately agreed. Though I knew it was a Tamil remake, I did not go to watch the original because they have made a lot of changes in my character, which might come out fresh and secondly it would be a good experience to work with well-known director, Sammuthikarani,” he explains.
Unlike 'Alemari', actor Rakesh will not have an aggressive portrayal in 'Yaare Kogadali'. “It’s quite an underplayed character, where I am not shown like a villain but my thoughts will be negative. One will not see me in a rugged look. I have a fully cropped hair cut like a village boy, which I felt is something very interesting," he says.
Unlike the modern day villains, Rakesh is not bulky and he comes across as a very innocent boy.
Can Rakesh's personality suit a villain’s role?
“I won’t really play a villain though the movie has action and rowdism and this movie will not portray me like one. An emotion is a sort of jealousy, a inner feeling, which will make human being do a bad thing.
Having an innocent personality but still being slammed by people is quite a task to portray and I have to play the role through my expressions,” he added. His inclination towards playing a baddie came because of the star cast of this film.
He says, “Many well-wishers of mine have already mentioned about this. They said that after being a villain in two films, I might end up being offered similar roles in future. But after 'Alermari' I am still getting lead roles. In fact, playing a villain has turned out to be positive for me as now I am being offered films, which are action-oriented, because they thought I could suit the character, which became a plus point to me,” he says.
Meanwhile 'Preethiyindra', 'Ayodhye Puram' and 'Dove' will see Rakesh playing a hero.
“I’ll now balance between 'Yaare Kogadali' in which I play a baddie and with other three films in which I play a hero,” he signs off.
