Sindhu Loknath, who got recognised in the South Indian industry for her role in the movie, Lifeu Ishtene, is now going to play a maid in her forthcoming movie, Case No 18/9, which is the Kannada remake of the Tamil film, Vazhakku Enn 18/9.
The film, released last year, was written and directed by Balaji Sakthivel, and won the National Film Award for best feature film in Tamil in spite of having new faces in its cast.
All set to create magic on the silver screen with her deglamed character, she says, “I am appearing on the big screen after seven long months. I don’t know whether to consider it fortunate or unfortunate, but I will have back-to-back films releasing in the month of August. Apart from Case No 18/9, I have Nan Lifealli and Coffee with My Wife. Audience who had not seen me for quite sometime, will see me everywhere now.”
According to her, the decision to work in a remake was taken only because of the strong script of the movie.“When the original film got released in Chennai, I got to know that the film received a lot of appreciation and awards too. I was quite apprehensive to be part of the film when I was initially approached by director Mahesh Rao. He told me to watch the movie. And, when I did, I fell in love with the character and accepted the film,” she states.
To justify her character and to be sure that her expressions are different from the original, she has tried to adapt to the role. She says, “I watched the movie only to get the basic idea. My director asked me to take more inputs from my housemaid and observe her behaviour.
That helped me bring authenticity to the character,” adds the actress. Sindhu has several projects lined up. Those include Nan Lifealli, Coffee With My Wife and Yaare Koogadali. From being a college student in one, and being a hearing and speech impaired in another, Sindhu is happy to have a variety in her platter today.
The actor’s next project is again a remake of a Tamil film Engaeyum Eppothum.
“I and director Mahesh are doing three films together. After Case No 18/9, he will be directing Prachanda in which I am paired opposite Yogi. I have also signed another film with the director, which is a remake of a Tamil blockbuster Engaaeyum Eppothum. I have been chosen to play the role of Ananya in the multi-starrer film. The rest of the starcast is yet to be finalised,” she says.
Though there is no lack of projects in her kitty, the actor has some concerns when it comes to directors roping in new actors. “We struggled to climb the ladder and I feel there is nothing wrong in seeking little more remuneration. Instead of encouraging us, they go for newcomers, just to save money.
A lot of directors and filmmakers are not realising the impact of roping in actors, who just appear in one film and leave. It is high time that they start considering heroines who have established themselves,” she says.
