Kannada actor Srujan Lokesh will now play a new role in life as he steps into fatherhood. Excited about the arrival of his son, he talks to City Express about how his life has changed.

“My son has become the centre of attraction in the house. Fatherhood is another turning point in my life. I was confused at one point because I didn’t know how to react when something you have been waiting for appears all of a sudden and it is there in your arms. I am experiencing such mixed emotions,” says Srujan, adding, “I think my son can take up a job in the UK or the US because he sleeps the whole day and wakes up in the night. My wife and sister are having a tough time taking care of him.”

“My wife and the baby will leave to her parents’ house soon. I will miss him,” says the actor. Coming back to films, Srujan will start 2015 with Sapno Ki Rani that will release in mid-January. In this movie, Srujan plays a mechanic. How he transforms because of love is the crux of Sapno Ki Rani. “Every person has a soft side that only gets explored in certain situations,” he says.

Does he think he is cut out for romantic roles? He says, “There is no winning formula. What will suit me or what won’t depends on the project alone. Like in cricket, if a player is good on one pitch, that doesn’t mean he will play well on another. Nobody can be perfect everywhere. I have been so influenced by my dad (Lokesh) that I think no one can be as good as him. I want to achieve his versatility.”

He further adds, “At my age, my dad was doing exactly what I am doing now. I still have a long way to go. I don’t like sticking to a particular formula or a specific kind of role. Forget the audience, I myself will start getting bored after some time. That’s why I take a long break in between my shows on small screen and movies. I want to try out every subject, even the bad ones. Because only when I do it will I feel like I at least tried.”

Srujan is currently finalising on a couple of scripts, on which he will start working in February. Meanwhile, he will be continuing with his shows on TV.

In the future, he hopes to fulfill his dream of reprising the role of his father’s film, Ganayogi Panchakara Gawai. “It is an amazing film and my father almost got a National Award for his role. Though I am interested in taking it up, I don’t know if I will be able to do justice to the role. It might take some time but, I will definitely make an attempt,” he says.
