The film Japan Market marks the entry of music director Manu Mathew into film direction. And, the KA girl Deepthi Mohan will be back to face the camera after a year-long-gap and she will be paired opposite a newcomer, Pranav. "After KA directed by Saikrishna, I had to take a break from films to complete my graduation. While I studied at Mount Carmel, I missed a year during the shoot of KA because I bunked classes for completing the film. But I realised that I should not forgo my education. After KA, I did not take up any more projects and concentrated on my studies. I am glad to have a degree in BA (Political Science) today," says this model-turned actress.
Deepthi who eventually wanted to be in tinsel town is happy to be associated with a new director Manu Mathew. "Though he might be new to direction, he comes from a house of artistes, who are mostly into music. His father Laya Kokila and his uncle Sadhu Kokila are good music directors and have established themselves in the industry in their own way. After directing music for many films in south Indian languages, he is now venturing into direction," says Deepti, who throws light on Japan Market. "With Mathew helming the project, it is going to be a musical film and the director himself has composed some fantastic music. We have already shot one song and dialogue bits will start from January 20."
Director's take
Manu says that Japan Market is based on a real-life story, which took place in 1986. "It is a two dimensional intellectual love subject with a musical theme. The story is that of my classmate's relative, and her love story that had taken place in 1986 at Mandipete. The hero of the film is a flower seller and an illiterate while the girl is working at a mobile showroom. I have taken one-and-half years to conceive this story and it will be made under my own banner, Bhanu Pictures," says the new director.
Manu, who has composed music for films Punda, Nammanna Don and Ninety Kudi Palti Hodi has worked more with background score and as an arranger.
Apparently a song that is already been shot for Japan Market will bring out the gist of the film. "I will soon be releasing the trailer and the first look of the film through this song before I go on floors.
Durga Kiran, son of cinematographer Krishna Kumar, will be making his debut as a technician and the editor will be being SN Nagendra Urs." he says.
