Of late, Ragini Dwivedi has started taking on more women-centric films and fortunately for her, more than one director thinks of her while thinking of such roles and in fact most parts are almost tailor-made for her. She also manages to pull off these tough solo acts and draw the audience into theatres by sheer dint of her talent. Right now, she is working on two heroine-centric films, Veera Ranachandi and Amma which will be followed by veteran director Saiprakash’s Lady Singham.
It seems like she has plunged into a quest to find herself as well as make a place for herself in Sandalwood. “Today, I not only have a standing as a heroine but also have the solo market of a hero. In such a situation, it also becomes important for me to maintain a balance between my solo outings as well as more commercial films,” says Ragini.
As perhaps the only heroine who has been encouraged to do more female -oriented films in the Kannada industry, Ragini wants take it one step at a time. “I have completed the talky portions of Veera Ranachandi and will be shooting the song sequences soon. “The effort that I have put into Veera Ranachandi is three times more than what I put into Ragini IPS. Director Anand P Raju has worked hard on my looks as well as the action bits and I am also putting in equal effort. In fact, a lot of big directors have come forward to experiment with heroine-centric films, not only in Kannada, but in other languages as well. I am really happy that I could create a new wave through female action films in Kannada,” she says.
As far as her other film Amma is concerned, it is going to be a big multilingual release in five languages. The actress says that the film is shaping up well. Having completed two schedules for the film already, Ragini feels that this is by far, the most difficult film of her career. “Shooting a film in five languages is insane. I thought it would really be easy and fun. But I have to put in a lot of hard work especially when I am surrounded by actors like Prashanth Narayanan and Rajpal Yadav. They are all ace players in whatever they do. You have to be a go-getter, if you want to match their levels of performance. Completing even one scene becomes a great deal as we had to speak in different languages. All said and done, I am actually honoured to be working in a film that is made in five languages which is a whole new process. I am glad to have completed two schedules and there are two more to go. The producers hope to bring out the film around my birthday this year,” she says.
