Rakshasi is a Failed Debut

How do you spoil a classic when remaking it in another language? The remake of Tamil film by Pisaasu, directed by Mysskin, is an example.

Some movies are not fit to be remade, and Pisaasu falls under that category. Moreover, remakes too require thought and effort, a process that shows little with Rakshasi.

Though the plot is a fear capsule, its making can rule in the kingdom of ‘Failed Remakes’. The makers have blindly followed the story of the original, even retaining same character names.

M U Ashraf, who has previously assisted A R Murugodoss, decided to don the director’s hat with Rakshasi. Though he comes with his own skill sets, this outing makes a creative failure of him.

It’s a disaster for Navarasan, debuting with Rakshasi and who has invested in the movie, too. He indeed needs to cycle before taking the wheel, learn before facing the camera.

Sindhu Loknath does not have much of a role. Except for G K Reddy’s performance as Vishal’s father, there is little notable about supporting characters including Kuri Pratap, Kempe Gowda, Sujith and Krishnamurthy Kauthar.

Cinematographer Mohan is the only bright spot.

Both director M U Ashraf and newbie actor Navarasan would have done better to leave Pissasu alone Pisaasu as Rakshasi is a disappointment. Skip it.
