Hariprriya Tests her Comic Timing with Bullet Basya

Kannada flick Bullet Basya, which now has a U/A certificate, is Hariprriya’s first comedy entertainer. Earlier, the actress could often be seen in family dramas as a girl-next-door. “Working in a comedy flick was challenging to me,I am anxious about how the film will be received,” she says.

Hariprriya thanks director Jayatheertha and producer Jayanna who gave her a free hand, even while choosing her costumes. “I still remember the first thing Jayatheertha said while narrating the story to me on the sets of Ricky, ‘This is a love story that revolves around Kaveri, a village belle. The first scene has her coming out of a pond in a white saree with a red border.’ It sounded like he had planned the script well,” recalls the actor, who felt at home while working on the sets of Bullet Basya.

On her co-star Sharan, she says, “Though I play an innocent and reserved girl, funny things happen around me. Sharan pulls off such roles with aplomb. I observed that he is very conscious about the way he looks in the film; he wanted to make sure that everything was in tune with the storyline. And it has worked well for the film.”

Hariprriya goes on about the way she was decked up for the songs and scenes. “As a village girl, I am mostly seen in half saris. But in the songs, the director gave me an unusual look and styled me differently. I had to dress up like an Arabian dancer, in retro style, and as an Iyengar girl,” she says.

On her experience of working in a comedy, she says, “Comic timing is very important and I had a lot of freedom and that helped me perform better.”
