Delhi girl Disha Pandey seems to be giving tough competition to established and aspiring actresses, especially in the South Indian film industry. In a short span of five years, the actress has bagged 13 films in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada. She is now looking forward to two Kannada films, which might hit the screens this year.
The actress, who featured in two Bollywood films — Bolo Ram and Sarah Jahan Se Mehanga, is currently filming for her second Kannada film, Bombay Mittai. “My first film in Kannada was the 2014 release, Jai Lalitha. Though Bombay Mittai is taking time to release, it has been able to create a certain amount of curiosity because of its title and story. It is about friendship and is a fun film. The director Chandra Mohan has picturised the characters quite well and people will be able relate to them in real life, especially the happy moments of life.”
According to the actress, the makers are looking for an April release. “I am not aware of the exact date,” she says.
Disha has also been roped in for Subramani with Srinagar Kitty. Discussing her first break in Sandalwood, she says, “I was shooting for a Telugu film when the casting director introduced me to Pon Kumaran, the director of Jai Lalitha. He chose me mainly because my physique which matched the hero, Sharan’s personality. Also, he seemed to have been impressed with my ability to learn different languages.”
Unlike other actresses of her age, Disha states that she has never planned her films nor does she have a manager to handle her work. “Till date, all films just happened. I am yet to plan my film career, which I don’t consider as an immediate necessity as far as I am enjoying what I am doing. The most important thing right now is to enhance my performance each time I face the camera,” she says.
