When music director Arjun Janya was asked to recreate an atmosphere from the eighties and nineties, for Chakravarthy, he made an inspired move. The talented musician went ahead and roped in the popular Bharath Brass Band, Mysuru, which specialises in playing at Dasara festivals and weddings.

“The makers wanted a retro feel to the music and so I thought of bringing in a live band and recorded the music in Mysuru. I roped in Bharath Brass Band, which is quite popular, especially during the Dasara festival. I got them to the hotel where I stayed and finished the recording in two days,” says Arjun.

Darshan, who plays the lead, has taken an interest and discussed with Arjun how they could make music from the eighties more current. The result is evident with Rani Rani Rani Mai Mumbai Ki Rani, done along a ‘naughty girl’ theme.

“We have used all kinds of instruments right from the trumpet, euphonium and the bugle to clarinet and old style guitar. Everything is recorded live,” says Arjun.

The shooting for the song is on from today with model turned actress Ishita Vyas roped in for the special retro number. Ishita, who has worked for the small screen, has also been part of films such as Peepli Live, Oh My God, Commando and Gabbar is Back.

Not revealing much, director Chintan says, “The song is set in the eighties. We will have around 150 members including Darshan involved in its making.”

Chakravarthy, which has Deepa Sannidhi in the female lead, is produced by Anaji Nagaraj and Siddhanth. Dinakar Thoogudeepa plays the antagonist. Srujan Lokesh and Aditya are also part of the starcast. HC Venu is the cameraperson; KM Prakash is the editor and Eshwari Kumar, the art director.
