BENGALURU: There are only a lucky few in Sandalwood who have been able to make profit out of laughter and repeat it as a signature. Director Chandra Mohan, of Bombay Mittai is surely one among those whose creative pursuits have resulted in the spirit of laughter getting more simple and mature at the same time. And now, he is planning for his next experiment with comedy in Double Engine.
While in his debut the director had no big stars, yet finding critical acclaim, Double Engine will again be low profile in an interesting combination. According to sources, this film will have Chikkanna in the lead and along with Ashok of
Mr and Mrs Ramachari fame and newcomer Prabhu. Interestingly, this time
Suman Ranganathan will be seen in the lead. “She will be playing an interesting character and we can see a different shade of the actress than her previous films. Dattanna, Sadhu Kokila, Bullet Prakash and Akanshna Bhat have also been signed,” sources say.
The story revolves around three innocent youths from a village who are trying to make money in a short time, but get cheated. “Like in his first film, every actor has been given importance and there is no particular concept of a hero and a heroine. It will be again filled with serious comedy, something on the lines of Hera Pheri, Chupke Chupke, Golmaal, among others. His friends have come together as producers for the film,” sources reveal.
It is also rumoured that the director has plans to make a sequel of Bombay Mittai, which will happen next year.
When contacted, Chandra Mohan insisted that he would talk only after he comes out with the first copy of the film, when he plans for publicity. Prod him further and he only says that the film will go on floors from March. “All I would want to say is Bombay Mittai has only given me more responsibility and I will try and keep up the entertainment,” says the director.
With actors like Suman Ranganathan and Chikkanna to be seen on screen together, it will be definitely interesting to know what comes out of Double Engine.
