Irrespective of the language, some stories have universal appeal. But what makes them seep into the hearts of the audience is the efficacy of the director to tell the story with its simple elements intact. And just like Virinchi Varma, who could weave a passionate tale in the Telugu original, Uyyala Jampala, its Kannada remake by Anil Kumar stands on its own. A family entertainer, the film is an earnest love story with a narrative that has the potential to engage.
The story is about Krishna (Krishna Ajai Rao) and Rukmini alias Rukku (Amulya), who are cousins. Growing up in Chikmagalur, the two share a great bonding. Though it reflects in their growing years, the two are unsure whether they are made for each other. Cupid does strike when Rukku goes through an unfortunate incident and she falls in love with Kirshna. But having been cheated in love before, she is heartbroken when her marriage, arranged by Krishna himself, is fixed with an NRI. Will Krishna miss Rukku or will they come together forms the crux of Krishna Rukku.
The advantage of Krishna Rukku is the apt star cast, who blend with the story and simple dialogues. This delicate tale of romance set against a rural backdrop makes for a pleasant watch with both the lead actors shining throughout. Ajai has chosen a subject, which connects him with the local audience and Amulya not only makes a pretty picture but justifies the role of a village girl. The two make a great onscreen pair. Girija Lokesh, Shobhraj, Lakshmi, Siddaiah, Swapna Raj and Lekha Chandra have lent laudable support.
Cameraperson Jagadish Walli has made use of the green belt quite attractively and the songs by Sridhar V Sambhram goes well with the story.
Though a remake, the film comes out fresh in Kannada. Watch for a simple love story.
