Raghavendra Rajkumar and Malashree-starrer Nanjundi Kalyana is back in the news with the director Rajendra Karanth considering to use the old title for his upcoming film. The 1989 Kannada romantic comedy directed by MS Rajashekar was a blockbuster and one of the highest profit grossing movies of that year.
The film will feature Madamakki hero Thanush. Confirming about the title, Thanush tells City Express, “It was a film that ran for 435 days at that time. And, when Rajesh narrated the subject, we thought what better than the title Nanjundi Kalyana. We took permission from Raghavendra Rajkumar of Poornima Enterprises and it is now the title of our film”.
Thanush, who considers Rajendra Karanath as his guru, is happy about teaming up with him for the movie. “We are associated together in theatre. He narrated around ten scripts to me, out of which, I picked this comedy subject,” says Thanush, who clarifies that they have only picked the title of the film and not its content.
The film made under Srirama Talkies plans to go on floors from November. With Arun Sagar on board, the rest of the starcast is still being finalised. “We are looking for a heroine, who can be as good as Malashree in her debut,” he says. Jagadish Waali has been roped in as the cinematographer, with Satish scoring music for the film.
