Upendra’s introductory song in Kalpana 2 will be a patriotic number about Kannada and Karnataka.
“Dr Nagendra Prasad has penned the lyrics to go with Upendra’s onscreen personality: Nannannu Sigadakigdru Kannada, Kocchakidru Kannada, Chucchakidru Kannada...Karunade Nanna Daiva, Kaveri Nanna Jeeva,” says director Ananth Raju
Puneeth Rajkumar has sung the song and it has been choreographed by Kalaimaster.
Ananth Raju tells City Express why he and his team planned the film’s introductory song so differently from the one in the Tamil film Kanchana 2 it’s based on.
“In the original (Kanchana 2), the introductory song is about ghosts, and this goes with the theme,” he says. “Though ours follows a similar storyline, we have made some changes to adapt it to the Kannada audience.”
And the process of adaptation included weaving in a patriotic song. “I am sure this will evoke an emotional response from the audience. The actor has not had such an introduction in any of his previous films. Puneeth’s voice only adds to the flavour of patriotism,” he says.
Upendra will sport different looks, dancing in step with 100 background artistes, donning costumes reminiscent of the Karnataka flag. “The song will be shot right here, in Bengaluru,” he says.
Song Based On Uppi Film Titles
Upendra has garnered attention for his out-of-the-box film titles. Interestingly, these have come in handy in Kalpana 2. They are part of another song, with the lyrics, again, written by Kaviraj.
“It will feature 20 titles -- among them are A, H2O, Super, Buddhivanta and Kutumba -- and it has been sung by the star himself,” says Ananth Raju.
“Along with the title of Rakhtakanniru, a couple of dialogues from that film have also been included.” This song, choreographed by Murali ‘Master’, will be shot in Goa from May 11, he adds. “It is a duet, with Uppi and Avantika Shetty,” he says.
The director is now working on graphic.
Kalpana 2 has Priyamani and Avantika Shetty as its female leads.
