BENGALURU: Pranitha Subhash believes more in staying rooted to her choice of cinema and body of work than dwelling over the number of movies she does in a year. The actress told City Express that she is concerned about the quality of cinema and not the quantity.
In line with this philosophy, the actress says, she chose to be a part of Mass Leader starring Shivarajkumar and directed by Narasimha.
While she considers the film to be an out and out Shivarajkumar film, she pays due credits to actors Vijay Raghavendra, Yogi, Gururaj Jaggesh, Sharmiela Mandre and Vamsi Krishna. “As actors, one always faces certain apprehensions on being part of an ensemble cast as is the case in Mass Leader. Every character, including me plays the lead in the film,” says Pranitha, who plays love interest to Shivarajkumar in the film.
Mass Leader that tells the story of an army officer releases on Independence eve. “While, it has been a practice to celebrate the spirit of patriotism on Independence Day and Republic day, to be honest today people show love for the country only on social media,” says the actress.
“They feel fighting online, getting offensive and putting up comments solves issues. This only creates news and not solutions,” she says and adds, “Practically if you see, it is the soldiers who are fighting for the country and it is high time we pay attention to them.”
Pranitha believes that her film, which focuses on the army has all the elements of a commercial entertainer. The film produced by Tarun Shivappa and Hardik Gowda features Ashika Ranganath, Sharmiela Mandre among others.Veer Samarth has scored teh music and cinematography by Guru Prashant Rai.
As the film inches closer to the release date, Pranitha tells us that she has always been conscious about her career and never played by the numbers. “The end result of a product is not in your hands,” she says adding that she thoroughly enjoys the 100 days of shooting schedule.
“Even if I had to pick a 9 to 5 job, I would ask myself if I enjoy the work and the team. That’s how I pick films too,” she explains. The actress acknowledges that she isn’t seen in many movies, but adds that it is because she has a check list that she adheres to, before signing on a project. “And one such team I found was in my latest Kannada film, Mass Leader,” she says.
Her last Kannada film was Brahma, which released three years ago. “People question my on and off presence in Kannada industry,” says the actress. Pranitha adds that while she has a presence in Telugu and Tamil film industry, she says that she has stayed rooted to Kannada cinema and that her work in Sandalwood is a proof.
“The filmy phrase ‘comeback’ never existed in my dictionary. Irrespective of language, I just look at what is good. Wherever I go and whichever industry I work in, I love coming back to my home as a true blue Bengalurean,” says Pranitha.
