July 22 was a special day for actor Danish Sait, as it was when he wrapped his first film’s shoot - Humble Politician Nograj.
We usually see the radio host / MC / comedian / TV host at his funniest best, but we got to witness his emotional side, as he had written a long letter thanking every department, from the artistes to the producers to director Saad Khan, with whom he has co-written the script for the film.
City Express caught hold of a few pictures from the sets, and also chatted with Danish over the telephone. He told us that through the process of his shoot, how he got attached to the character Nograj.
“Honestly, the journey has been going on for too long. As a child, I wanted to do films, but had no idea how to go about it. It actually only hit me on the last day of the shoot that Nograj, a character created by me, is finally going to be on the silver-screen. At that moment, I felt this is not an achievement, it is an accomplishment,” he says.
The film is now in the editing stage. Danish and Saad have been so involved in the entire process, starting from the early scripting days, that Danish says that if Saad and him were to get married, this would be their ‘first child’.
“I know that in a couple of months this baby will be all grown up and out in the world. People will form opinions about it, as to how good or bad the child is. So will it go on to do well for itself or will it embarrass its parents? That is something we need to watch out for,” he says.
Danish wants to wait till the release of his first film, as he believes that expectations and assumptions are the root cause to most of the evil in this world - especially when it comes to human beings. “I think it is about taking one step at a time. Personally, I quite like this model of working where I can be involved from the writing level - it makes my life a lot of easier. Moreover, Humble Politician Nograj is a gateway to a lot of other things that will add to my career,” he says.
Taking a moment to mention the efforts of the producers - Pushakara Mallikarjunaiah, Hemanth M Rao and Rakshit Shetty - Danish says he’s happy that he was supported throughout. “I took the right kind of advice, and did what was meant for the character. Moreover, with Saad and I being friends, it was a lot easier,” he says.
The makers have planned for an October release, apparently, Danish will not enter the edit studio until the final version is out. “I have decided to give my points once Saad and I sit and watch the whole film together,” he signs off.
