Vivek Oberoi to make Sandalwood debut with Rustum

Stunt choreographer-turned-director Ravi Varma has managed to bring the B-Town hero to Sandalwood; actor to share screen space with Shivarajkumar, who plays a cop

BENGALURU:  First-time director, Ravi Varma seems to be creating the right noises for his debut, Rustum. The film being bankrolled under Jayanna Combines has not only roped in superstar Shivarajkumar, but also B-Town hero, Vivek Oberoi. In fact, the film has been creating the buzz with its ensemble star cast which brings together diverse actors across the south.

Until now, Ravi had only mentioned in earlier reports that he would be be roping in a Bollywood hero for his film. Even as several names were doing the rounds, our sources on Wednesday confirmed that Vivek has agreed to be part of the project. After many trips to Mumbai and several rounds of discussions, the director finalised the Bollywood actor. 

Though a number of other directors have attempted bring down the Bollywood actor, this is the first time a stunt choreographer and director has achieved this. The actor was almost roped in to be part of Ramgopal Varma’s project, a Muthappa Rai biopic. However, the project got shelved for reasons unknown. 
Word has it that Vivek, a good friend of Sudeep from the Raktacharitra days, has more of a connect with Karnataka, now that he is married to Nandini Alva’s daughter, Priyanka Alva. 

In the film, the actor is said to be playing a pivotal role. Besides that, the makers are tight-lipped thereby trying to arouse curiosity around his character. “The film’s shooting is currently on and Shivarajkumar is participating in the shoot. Vivek will be joining the sets soon,” says our source.The film features Shraddha Srinath in the female lead and Mayuri as sister to Shivanna. Rustum also has Harish Uthaman of Gouravam and Pandiya Naadu fame, who will be making his Kannada debut, along with veteran Tamil director Mahendran of Theri fame. Newcomer Arjun Gowda has been cast as the antagonists of the film. The film’s music is by Anoop Seelin and cinematography by Naveen Kumar. 

126 kg cake for Shivanna’s birthday
Today, Shivarajkumar turns 56 and thousands of fans in the state are gearing up for celebrations. Two fan groups are making it extra special for the actor by presenting him a 126 kg cake, which is supposed to the biggest any actor has received so far. Another fan club is planning to bring in a 56 kg cake to match his age. Shivanna’s residence is expected to be filled with fans who will be coming from across Karnataka to wish the Century star.

Meanwhile, filmmakers who have associated with Shivarajkumar are bringing out motions posters and a first look of the actor along with birthday wishes. Shivanna’s latest film, Tagaru is heading towards 175 days of screening. The actor has a busy year ahead with a series of films-- including Prem’s The Villain, Kavacha, Rustum, Drona, SRK--lined up. He will also be working with director Yogaraj Bhat and will follow it up with a project with director AP Arjun.
