THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: `Ividam swargamanu’, directed by Rosshan Andrrews, is a film made with  social commitment. According to the director, it exposes the booby traps in the real estate sector.

``A large number of people are being cheated by land grabbers. The real estate mafia uses pressure tactics and forces the poor people to sell off their houses and property. My film provides an awareness about the situation prevailing in this sector,’’ Rosshan Andrrews said at a meet-the-press programme at Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on Wednesday.

Mohanlal, who plays the lead role in the film, said the movie would be informative to the viewers as it sheds light on the services of ‘amicus curiae’.

Referring to the new directors’ boldness to go in for experiments, he said that the future of Malayalam cinema was bright as there were  talented directors like Rosshan Andrrews, Lal Jose and Ranjith.

Mohanlal also said that there was no point in complaining about the increase in production cost. He said the propaganda that the remuneration of the the film stars had landed the cinema industry in crisis was not right. We have to produce films with better technical and visual quality, which requires spending of huge amounts, he said.

He pointed out that other language films produced at a cost of millions of dollars are being screened along with Malayalam films. He suggested discouraging the screening of other language films during the release of Malayalam movies.

Mohanlal also asked the exhibitors to provide a clean and comfortable  environment in theatres to attract the family crowd.

The actor said he had to suffer losses for producing films like ‘Vanaprastham’. But, it helped to take that film to Cannes festival. He plans to produce more films in future, Mohanlal added.

There is nothing wrong in encouraging fans’ associations as far as these associations engage in promoting cinema.

His fans have never created trouble for him. On the contrary, they have been involved in several charity works, said Mohanlal.

Scriptwriter James Albert said he had to conduct thorough research for the film as it demanded much information on land transactions.

Rosshan Andrrews said they had to cultivate crops at three locations to create a natural setting of farmhouse for the movie.

Shankar, heroine Priyanka and producer of the film Antony Perumbavoor also attended the meet-the-press.
