KOCHI: “Yes, I have an extra bone, as you said. And don’t you ever learn to forget that.”
No film buff has ever forgotten the IAS officer who uttered these punch lines to the minister and walked back in a grand style. And the officer - Joseph Alex, The King – is back. Interestingly, joining Joseph Alex will be another character who ruled the celluloid - Bharathchandran IPS. Yes, both Joseph Alex and Bharathchandran will engage in a high-octane clash soon on the silver screen.
Titled ‘The King and The Commissioner,’ the movie will have Mammootty and Suresh Gopi portraying Joseph Alex and Bharathchandran respectively. The movie will see director Shaji Kailas and scriptwriter Renji Panicker joining hands after a gap of 16 years.
“Though we did not do a movie for the last 16 years, there was no communication gap between us. And the chemistry between us is still there without any strains,” says Renji Panicker.
Starting right from the first movie - ‘Doctor Pasupathy’ - the duo of Shaji and Renji, has gifted notable hits to the Malayalam cinema, including ‘Thalasthanam,’ ‘Sthalathe Pradhana Payyans,’ ‘Ekalavyan,’ ‘Commissioner’ and ‘The King.’ All the super hits from the combo were noted for their political remarks and sharp dialogues in them, which were greeted by applause.
“We are planning to create a political thriller with New Delhi as the backdrop. Several issues have happened recently that shattered the political scenario of the country. Strong dialogues will be there and it is the spectators who decide whether they are sharp or not,” says Renji Panicker.
He says that Joseph Alex, who was presented as the District Collector of Kozhikode in the movie ‘The King,’ will be shown as a top official with the Central Government in the new release. “Bharathchandran is now the Commissioner of Delhi City Police,” he says.
Will this pave the way for high voltage clash between two officers?
“Well, I do not want to disclose the storyline now. However, there will be scenes with both characters engaging in a war of words,” he says.
The movie will have actors Devan and Salim Kumar in notable roles. There are also reports that actor Gireesh Karnad will portray the antagonist in this movie.
The shooting of the movie will begin on June 6. Produced under the banner of Emperor Cinema, ‘The King and the Commissioner’ will hit screens on Ramzan this year.
