KOCHI:  Based on a thousand true stories, as the tag suggests, cinematographer Sameer Thahir's debut directorial venture 'Chappa Kurishu' is all set to hit the screens. The movie, which has already grabbed enough attention of the tinsel town for the variety element in its posters and the curious title, is expected to be a flagbearer of the muchawaited change in Mollywood.

"Chappa Kurishu is a colloquial term used in Kochi for head and tail, the two sides of a coin. As the movie depicts the story of two persons living in extremely different circumstances, we selected this title," says R Unni, who is penning the script of the movie along with Sameer Thahir. Unni, who had earlier contributed the clever oneliners for Amal Neerad's 'Big 'B and 'Sagar Alias Jacky,' has gone for a realistic approach this time. "The dialogues that we have used in this movie are similar to those used in routine conversations. The treatment and narration lay stress on one factor naturality," says Unni.

Arjun and Ansary belong to two different levels of society. Arjun is a representative of the upper crest, a young real estate tycoon who enjoys the luxuries of life to the hilt. While Ansari, who reaches Kochi from Thalassery, is a salesman at a supermarket. He lives in a slum in Mattanchery. "Both the characters are like the two sides of a coin. These two sides are two extremes and are not expected to meet each other. But in the movie, both Chappa and Kurishu, at a particular point, are confronting each other. What follows is an array of incidents that change their lives upside down," he says.

Fahad Fazil (Shanu) plays the role of Arjun while Vineeth Sreenivasan portrays Ansari. The movie will have Roma, Remya Nambeeshan and Niveditha as heroines. Listin Stephen, who produced the movie Traffic, is financing 'Chappa Kurishu.' Director Sameer, who was behind the stylish visuals in the movies 'Big B' and 'Daddy Cool,'

entrusts the cinematography of 'Chappa Kurishu' to his former associate Jomon T John.

Rex Vijayan, who became popular through the rock band Avial, handles the music. The movie is slated for a July release. ENS
