KOCHI: The much-waited movie ‘Balyakalasakhi’, based on the late Vaikom Mohammed Basheer’s famous novel with the same title, will begin by July.
Announcing this here at a press conference on Friday, director Pramod Payyannur said that apart from Majeed and Suhra, the lead characters of the novel, the film will also have some popular Basheerian characters like Ettukaali Mammoonju, Ottakkannan Pocker, Sainaba, Aaanavari Raman Nair and Ponkurissu Thoma.
Mammootty will play the role of Majeed in the movie which will also give chances to fresh talents.
The producers are also planning to organise audition camps to find new faces. “Ten students will be selected from schools and colleges while 15 theatre artists will also be given chances in the movie. The audition will be on a zonal basis,” said Pramod Payyannur.
Artists from Kasragode, Kannur, Kozhikode and Malappuram will be having their audition at Kozhikode on February 20,21 and 22. For central zone, the audition will be held at Ernakulam on February 25,26 and 27.
For those from Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Thiruvanathpuram, the audition will be held at the capital city on March 3, 4 and 5. “A total of 35 new faces will be introduced to the big screen,” Pramod added.
