There have been countless Malayalam movies on the life of rustic folk. The people of countryside are often portrayed as good and virtuous in many of them. But debutant director Aneesh Anwar says his ‘Mullamottum Munthiricharum’ unspools the changing face of the villages. The film that will be released on June 29 has Indrajith, Meghna Raj and Ananya as the lead actors.

“’Mullamottum Munthiricharum’ unravels the sudden changes that happen in the otherwise mundane life of Churuttu Jose, an irresponsible goon of a village. Jose, played by Indrajith is a typical example of the aimless sort of youth we see in villages, who have not seen the world beyond their native place,” says Aneesh who has been an associate director for the past 12 years to Joshiy, Bhadran, Rajbabu and Leo Thadevoos.

The arrival of two families, that of Rani and Suchithra, into the village on a single day and its effect on the life of Jose forms the crux of the movie. Through some interesting sequences, the film tells how Jose has to take the responsibility of the families of both the girls. Meghna Raj and Ananya enact the roles of Rani and Suchithra respectively.

“The film shows the increasing level of self-indulgence and hypocrisy among the villagers that was not there in the earlier scene. Fraudulent practices like human trafficking and other shady aspects of the village life are discussed in this film,” says the director.

Since the film tells the story of a village, there are several characters in the frame. The vicar played by Thilakan, Praveena who acts as Meghna’s sister, Asokan, Tini Tom and Kalashala Babu are among many others. The shooting of the film was at the suburbs of Thodupuzha. Script and screenplay is by Biju K Joseph. Music director is Mohan Sithara. Jassie Gift, Vishnu, Sharath and Jyothsana are the singers.
