She is only eighteen but has already entered Mollywood with a bang. Young Gaurilakshmi started off her film career with ‘Casanovva’ for which she penned and composed the song ‘Sakhiye Nin Kanmunakalil…’. She is now engaged in the works of her second movie, ‘Mizhi’ directed by Thejas Perumanna in which Vijay Yesudas and Shwetha will sing the songs composed by Gauri.
Gaurilakshmi, a music student of RLV music college, Tripunithura, wrote the lyrics of the songs of ‘Casanovva’ when she was only thirteen.
Rosshan Andrews who came to know about her skills through a friend of her father asked her to compose the song. Though the song was not included in the film, it provided a good start for Gauri as a debutante.
‘‘I was fortunate to begin my film career through a film like ‘Casanovva’. I also got a chance to get appreciation and advice from musicians like Gopi Sundar, Alphonse Joseph, Vijay Yesudas and directors like Jayaraj, Laljose and Blessy,” says Gauri.
The youngster, who is practising Carnatic music from the age of three, is also trained in Hindustani and guitar.
She is also a member of ‘Rock of Ages’, the choral music band of Kochi led by Godwin Figueiredo. Gauri inherited music from her father Harikrishnan, a theatre person.
The family also runs a music academy called Gowrigayathri Vidyapith along with a recording studio at Vaikom. Says Gauri, “I wish to compose more songs in future. Music direction gives me more satisfaction than playback singing because I think there is an element of creativity in composing music.”
The singer, whose biggest inspiration in music is Bombay Jayasree, also aspires to begin a band of her own in the near future. “Music without any barriers is my dream,” she says.
