Shweta Mohan, who forayed into films through ‘Kuchi Kuchi Rakkamma’in ‘Bombay’ has had a fulfilling tryst with the industry so far. The young singer has already found a place in South Indian films, and is now making a mark in B-town. Shweta had come to Kozhikode recently to take part in an event, ‘Gramaphone- Baburaj Padunnu’.

“Life is too good these days. With a couple of recordings and stage programmes in the pipeline, I am pretty busy of late,” says a buoyant Shweta, who was on her way after celebrating her mother’s (singer Sujatha) 50th birthday on March 31.

“Amma always prefers to celebrate her birthday in a simple way. But this time, it was different as the reality show in which Amma is a permanent judge arranged a grand musical party making the day memorable,” says Shwetha. And when the daughter thought of giving her mother a birthday gift, naturally, she could not think of anything beyond music. “What else would Amma love more than music,” says Shwetha, who reveals that she adapted the Bharathiyar poem, ‘Chinnanchiru kiliye kannamma’ and improvised it in her tune, with a violin and piano backing, as a birthday gift.

“The song speaks about a parent’s love for their only child. I couldn’t find a more perfect gift,” says Shweta, who rendered the song with singer Navneet Sundar. She adds that Sujatha was overwhelmed and had said that it is the best gift that she had got so far. The song crossed 15,000 hits on its launch day.

Shweta, who is balancing family and career, says, “Things are fine at home too, thanks to my husband Ashwin and family.”

The singer, who has a bunch of releases in the kitty, is all set to launch her music band in Chennai. The six-member team will have hotshots from the music industry including ‘Ennammo Yeadho’ fame Aalaap Raju on guitar. “Hopefully, we will give our first performance soon,” says Shweta.
