Celluloid bags seven awards

Celluloid, Kamal’s biopic on J C Daniel, a pioneer in Malayalam cinema, has bagged seven prominent honours, including best film and best actor at the Kerala State Film Awards 2012.

It was adjudged the best film while its lead actor Prithviraj bagged the best actor award. 

The awards were announced by Minister for Cinema K B Ganesh Kumar here on  Friday.

Madhupal’s Ozhimuri was named the second best film.

The jury, chaired by veteran filmmaker I V Sasi, selected Lal Jose as the best director for his Ayalum Njanum Thammil, which also won the award for the best popular film with artistic appeal.

Manoj K Jayan was adjudged the second best actor for his portrayal of the emotional turmoil of a Kathakali artist in Kaliyachan.

While Rima Kallingal clinched the best actress award for her roles in Nidra and 22 Female Kottayam, Sajitha Madathil’s fascinating performance as a streetwalker in Shutter won her the second best actress award.
