Remember the 2012 hit Kollywood movie Pizza that sent shivers down the spine? Well, debut director Akshay Akkineni is all geared up to spook B-Town with the remake of the movie in 3D. When Pizza 3D hits the screens this Friday, Malayalis too have every reason to be enthused, as Kerala lass Parvathy Omanakuttan will be playing one of the lead characters in the movie.

To add to the eerie factor, Parvathy will be seen essaying the role of Nikita, a novelist.

“I play a horror story novelist in Pizza. She is married to Kunaal, a pizza delivery boy. Nikita is bubbly and at the same time intimidates her husband. He is freaked out at her tantrums. She always tells her husband  ‘Your moment of fear is waiting for you’. The film shows how things change for me and Kunaal like Nikita’s words,” says Parvathy who doesn’t hide her excitement about her latest outing. “I am super excited and super nervous about the film. It is the first time that I am acting in a horror thriller like Pizza where my character has shades of grey,” she adds.

Ask the actor whether Pizza 3D is different from the original, she says, “The basic essence of the original film has been retained in Hindi too. One major difference is that in the new version, the 3D format has given the makers a lot of potential. The structure of the story is the same as in Tamil but changes have been made wherever we felt there is a need, to appeal to the mass audience.” Parvathy will be seen reprising the role essayed by Remya Nambeesan in the original.

For Parvathy, who likes to read horror books, Pizza is not just a horror film. “It is a suspense thriller with lots of edge-of-the-seat sequences to freak out the audience. I personally like to read books related to spirits and supernatural elements. It kind of thrills me,” says a confident Parvathy, who is hoping to make an effective re-entry into Bollywood with Pizza. Big names Bejoy Nambiar and Siddharth Roy Kapoor are producing the film.

Ask her how Nikita’s role came her way, she says, “It was a year back that I met Bejoy Nambiar while out for dinner with couple of friends. So when the project was on, through one of our common friends, I got a call from Bejoy’s office. I went for the audition and now here I am.”

In the film, Parvathy is paired opposite young actor Akshay Oberoi.

Quiz her about the working experience with a debut director and young star cast, she says, “I am fortunate that I worked with a director who wants to make good cinema. Never did I feel for a moment that he is a first-time director. With Akshay Oberoi too, I shared a great rapport. It is fun to work with a dedicated and hard working team.”

She also shares a spine-chilling incident during the shoot of Pizza. “On the first day of the shoot, a bulb would have fallen on my head. It was sheer luck that I escaped it because somebody called me at the right moment. Everyone was shocked with the incident,” says Parvathy who feels there are not many good Hindi horror films.

“The one horror film that I like the most in Hindi is Ram Gopal Varma’s Raat and others are Hollywood hits Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring, because of their different style.”

Ask her whether she would be focussing more on Bollywood, she says, “I am not restricting myself to one industry. Be it Bollywood or south, I always wish to be part of good films.”
