The play, C blunt C sharp won Best Original Script, Best Actress in a Leading Role and Best Innovative Sound/Music Design, in the Mahindra Excellency in Theatre Awards 2014. It is a witty, humorous and satirical look at what it is like to be a woman in the entertainment industry today. Actress MD Pallavi plays Shilpa, a mobile app.
Shilpa is an attractive, interactive and user friendly mobile phone app that makes your life musical. So, she will sing the songs you want to hear, with her sugary and husky voice, and shake her hips when you want her to as she dances to your favourite tune. Best of all, she behaves exactly the way women are supposed to behave in the eyes of men; that is, until the next update is released.
The play looks at traditional gender roles as engrained by culture. So we look at the performer as she moves between servitude and ego, between being-looked-at-ness and self determination.
