A handful of individuals, a common target and a fateful 24 hours towards the endgame - ‘Onnam Loka Mahayudham’ opens with a suspense-packed situation, darting through the intertwined destinies of its characters. “It’s a cross between a road movie and a thriller,” says director Sree Varun.
‘Onnam Loka Mahayudham’, a film that promises some edge-of-the-seat moments, is basically woven around a doctor and a police officer. Tovino Thomas plays Dr Jacob and Aparana Gopinath appears on screen as Thara Mathew IPS. A major portion of the film chronicles a road trip from Kochi to Coimbatore. “Jojo George and Chemban Vinod step into the roles of other key players as Anirudhan as Altaf. Revealing more about any of the character will shrink the suspense,” says the director.
He assures that the film stands leagues apart from the over-familiar and run-of-the-mill stuff. “The film doesn’t quite fit into the format of a regular thriller. It’s different in terms of theme and technique. I can say that the film deals with a very uncommon subject, something you have never come across in Mollywood,” he says. ‘Onnam Loka Mahayudham’ is also a film that maintains frame-to-frame suspense, a taut tempo completely in tune with its theme. “The tension shoots up with each scene keeping the audience on tenterhooks,” he says.
Though the film is a thriller at core it’s told with a dash of humour. “It doesn’t mean that there will be long comic interludes, the film is just slightly sprinkled with humour,” he explains. Another highlight of the film is that its cast will be seen in fresh and unexpected avatars.
“There will be an element of suspense in all characters be it Aparana or Tovino or Jojo,” he says. Aparna Gopinath dons khaki for the first time to play the tough cop in the film which also features some daredevil stunts.
“The film has no over-the-top action sequences. Run Ravi has choreographed the stunts and the portions with Aparana has been shot very realistically,” he adds.
He says the film has hardly any direct connection with the First World War. “There is a reference to it in a particular scene and you will know the relevance of the title while watching the film.” The film, produced by Sajils Majeed under the banner of Mehfil Productions, will hit the screens this Friday.
