Oralpokkam (Six Feet High), which won the 2014 Kerala State Film Awards for the best director and the award for the best location sound recording, will be released in theatres on October 2. The team behind the film plans to get atleast 20 theatres in the state along with those owned by Kerala state Film Development Corporation (KSFDC). “KSFDC chairman Rajmohan Unnithan has been very co operative to provide its five centres to our film. However, we want to have a wider reach and are looking for at least 15 more screens across the state for the release. So that we will get at least one show in each district,” said director Sanal Kumar.

While Sanal Kumar had won the award for the best director, Sandeep Kurissery and Jiji P Joseph had won the award for the best location sound recording, instituted by the government from 2014.

Oralpokkam the first movie in Malayalam made by online crowd funding had its first public screening in Kerala in Kochi and later it had more than 100 public screenings across the globe mainly in a unique concept called Cinema Vandi (Cinema Cab), which traveled across the state and screens the film in open spaces.

“We wanted to have the real theatre experience to show the public that we did not compromise on the technical aspects of the film though it was made on a comparatively low budget,” said Sanal.

The film, a mutli-lingual love story as it has dialogues in Tamil, English, Hindi and Malayalam  travels across the entire length of the country from Thiruvananthapuram to the Himalayas. The directorial debut of Sanal narrates the journey of a man (Prakash Bare) who has been going out of his promiscuous and urban existence by the mysterious disappearance of his estranged lover Maya, played by Tamil writer Meena Kandasamy.
