Major Banners on a Comeback Mode

Supriya Films will produce the directorial next of Pratap Pothen that will star Dulquer Salman.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seems like it is the perfect time for old production banners to spring back  to life. Following the lines of Kunchako Boban revamping Udaya Studio, which was founded by his grandfather the late Kunchako, it is the turn of Supriya Films to step back to limelight.

Supriya Films, knowing for producing blockbusters like Thulabharam, Rathinirvedam, Itha Ivide Vare,and Arapatta Kettiya Gramathil. However, banner will soon produce a movie directed by Pratap Pothan which will see Dulquer Salman playing the lead role. The movie scripted by Anjali Menon will also the mark the debut of award-winning cinematographer  Rajiv Menon in Malayalam. The film is jointly produced by Supriya and Rejaputhra Visual Media.

Supriya Films, with a strong lineage to boast of, was owned by Hari Pothen,  brother of Prathap Pothen. The banner first film was Ashwamedham released in 1967 while Pratap-directed Tamil film Athma was Supriya’s last production venture in 1993. The banner has produced more than 30 films.

Meanwhile, Udaya Studio next venture Kochanavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho has already been announced with Kunchako Boban in the lead. The movie will have children playing prominent characters. As per reports, Udaya Studio has already zeroed in on a Lal Jose project as its second venture post comeback.

Udaya Studio, one of the most prominent production banners in the history of Malayalam cinema, had made a  series of hit hit movies including Unniyarcha (1961), Othenante Makan (1970), Aromalunni (1972), Ponnapuram Kotta (1973), Thacholi Ambu (1978), Kadathanattu Makkam (1978) and Palattu Kunjikannan (1980) among others.
