Clad in a brocade sari with heavy jewellery and an intricate bindi, Urmila Devi is not your regular mother-in-law. One of the most popular faces on mini screen, Roopa Sree says she herself created the look for the show, based on the  brief given by the creative team. “As an artist I always notice latest make-up techniques and styles. For the show I I try various appearances, but all of them fitting the format of my character,”says the actress.

The Chandanamazha star says she gets inspiration from a lot of other actors and have never opted for a particular stylist. “I am genuinely interested in it and keep browsing through latest trends. I still consider myself a student in this field and for me each episode is a learning experience. If a particular look is good and it suits you and your character, there is no harm in copying it,” she adds.

She says a lot of compliments come her way, both for her character and her looks. “It’s not just college girls or housewives, I have met men who think my dressing sense is too good.” She agrees it’s a real task finding all the costumes and trinkets for the show. “If I am not shooting I am out shopping. I scour the shops in Chennai and Kochi regularly for exclusive pieces of saris and accessories,” laughs the actress.

In Chandanamazha she plays a strict-but-sweet mother-in-law and Roopa Sree seems totally in love with her character. “Urmalia is from the affluent Desai family and she is a very bold woman. Naturally all this reflects in her dressing style. When I signed the project I hardly knew that my character would make such an impact. I am thankful to god for the acceptance Urmila is getting,” says Roopa Sree who is reprising her role in the Tamil version as well.
