He is the blue-eyed boy of Malayalam television with hordes of households rooting for him. Kishore Satya, the new sensation on the miniscreen, agrees that he is on a new phase thanks to the popularity of his serial ‘Karutha Muthu’ being aired on Asianet.

Kishore, who plays Dr Balachandran in the prime-time soap, says the role has endeared him to the masses and credits the popularity of Asianet for the success. “This definitely is a new phase in my career, but that is due to the popularity of the platform called Asianet. I do not, for one second, think that all this popularity is due to my aura,” says an unassuming Kishore.

From Big Screen to Small

Kishore Satya says that his foray into the small screen happened after his much-needed break into movies did not materialise.

“I began as an assistant director in movies and acting just happened by  chance. My debut movie was ‘Youth Festival’ in 2004 but that failed to make a mark at the box office. I did a few more movies, but nothing really worked big time. Its then I got a chance to anchor a TV show on Amrita TV. It is from there that my career as a TV anchor took off. Then I did a few more serials in other channels, but ‘Karutha Muthu’ charted a different path in my career,” says the actor.

Stint in TV

Kishore Satya’s first serial was ‘Mantrakodi’ on Asianet which he followed up with ‘The Officer’ (Amritha) and ‘Kadhayile Rajakumari’ (Mazhavil Manorama). “All these serials were good ones in their content and characterisation. ‘The Officer’ was aired recently and it seems so fresh even after seven years,” says Kishore.

However, anchoring for him is something that happened without any planning. “I think my reach as a TV anchor is due to the fact that there weren’t much male anchors at that time,” says Kishore.

Criticisms

Criticisms (or useless controversies as he calls them) are something he is  used to but Kishore Satya says such attacks on soaps are something uncalled for.

“With the advent of social media, serials are something that are on the receiving end of criticism. But, if people think the content in the serials are that atrocious, they always have the freedom and choice to shun it. Such allegations and criticism won’t help the cause unless the viewers bring in a  filter and choose their content wisely. What is the use of flaying them after watching every single episode,” ask Kishore.

He adds that as an actor, his role is always to play his character to perfection and not bring in changes to the storyline. “Like in cinema too, our job is to act. We cant write stories and we have a separate team for that. So, launching personal attacks on us on our social media pages is an unwarranted,” says Kishore Satya.

Back to movies

All the popularity of ‘Karutha Muthu’ might be gifting him a huge fan base, but Kishore Satya says that movies are definitely on his cards. He will soon be seen in ‘James and Alice,’ to be directed by Jomon T John and ‘Gemini’ by P K Baburaj.

But, Kishore says serials don’t really help a career in the movies. “It only affects your chances,” adds Kishore.
