Both are icons of love, remembered for their impetuous passion.  And, though both its heroes pursue the same lady, Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum is no time-worn triangle, says director Boban Samuel. “In the film it’s presented with less drama and more humour making it more like a spoof. You will find familiar situations, but with a twist,” he adds.

A romantic comedy woven around a gorgeous girl, Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum has a fresh cast with Jayasurya, Kunchako Boban and Amala Paul on board.  “Amala Paul plays Jia and both Kunchako and Jayasurya are men who enter her life at different points in the past. But there comes a time when both are back and competing and the plot thickens from there,” he says. Though the film is loaded with every ingredient to make it a rollicking ride, there is a streak of suspense as well. “From the start to the last frame the film retains an element of surprise,” he adds.

While the first is an emperor known for his lavish display of love, Pareekutty represents a commoner. Boban says his characters Pranav Menon and Prince share the same equation as they belong to two entirely different classes. “Their love stories cannot be compared. If Kunchako’s Pranav is a suave-and-affluent man in love with Jia, Prince is the boy-next-door who falls for her,” he explains. Apart from the leading trio, Aju Varghese, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Vijayaraghavan, Vinya Prasad, Kunchan, Kochu Preman, Irshad and Shajon are also part of the cast.

Boban says one USP of the film will be Kunchako-Jayasurya combo, “they dole out a lot of hilarity and the old, funny Jayasuray comes alive after a long gap in this film.” Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum has its script by Y V Rajesh while Gopi Sunder scores the music. The film, produced by Ashiq Usman under the banner of Ashiq Usman Productions, will hit the screens this weekend.
