And the Show Goes On...

Sthreedhanam has recently crossed more than 1040 episodes

Television has become a space much looked upon, what with many soaps and reality shows cropping up these days. With so many TV soaps vying for the top slot, holding your own is a seriously tough job.

Sthreedhanam, one such primetime TV soaps telecast in Asianet, has not just become a strong contender but have also become the longest running primetime show currently being telecast in the channel. The series which aired its first episode on July 2 2012, have recently crossed more than 1040 episodes.

Being able to keep up along with the top rated shows in the channel, ‘Sthreedhanam’ did not have a primetime slot in the beginning. Elaborates the TV serial producer Ramesh Babu, “For every soap, an initial episode limit of 30 is the norm, after which it is contiued or stopped based on reviews of the public. It is the public who has the final opinion, along with the show ratings which is another deciding factor.”  Gradually the show succeeded in getting positive reviews from the audience, moving on to a primetime slot. Though there were no intentions of converting the show into a long running serial, ‘Sthreedhanam’ has now come a long way.

Keeping up viewers’ interest for such a long time is definitely a challenging task. And for the same reason, the makers say that adding unexpected twists to the storyline help in attracting attention.

Like many soaps, this one also has its share of characters adored by the audience, says Ramesh. He adds, “The role of Sethulakshmi, done by Chitra Shenoy is one such powerful character loved by many.”

Speaking of the positive and negative reviews the show is getting, the producer says, “There will always be a set of people who do not enjoy any kind of soaps, or are totally against them. So we don’t give much attention to too much of negative comments. But most of the responses we receive are mostly positive, with many suggestions pouring in as well.”

Being telecast at one of the primetime slots, the plot of the soap revolves around a mother and her three sons and daughter-in-laws.
