Eenam Swaralaya awards: Kamal Haasan honoured for contribution to cinema

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor Kamal Haasan and K S Chitra has bagged the Eenam-Swaralaya awards announced on Wednesday. Kamal Hassan bagged the Eenam-Swaralaya Bharat Murali Award and Chitra has been selected as the best singer for her contribution in the last half century.

Kamal Hassan has been selected for his contributions to the film industry in the last 56 years. He is an actor who has taken acting to real heights, Jury Chairman M A Baby said here while announcing the awards.

The award carries a purse of Rs one lakh, citation and memento. The awards are instituted by Eenam International, a cultural organisation of non-resident Keralites and Kerala-based 'Swaralaya.

Noted lyricist Kaitapram Damodaran Namboodiri was chosen for the Eenam-Swaralaya Prathibha award. This award consists of Rs 50,000, citation and memento.

The Song in film Premam ''Malare Ninne Kanathirunal...''was chosen for the Song of the year award. The song was written by Lyricist Sabareesh Varma, composed by Rajesh Murugeshan and sung by Vijay Yesudas. All the three would be given Rs 50,000 each, citation and memento.

The Jury consisted of Lenin Rajendran, M Jayachandran and Prabha Varma.

Director Lenin Rajendran, Eenam International Chairman C C Thampi and others were present at the announcement.
