Ma Chu Ka, a psycho-thriller starring Pashupathy and Janani Iyer in the leads, will hit the screens shortly

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Arivazhagan and Nivedita meet by chance, but what follows is a rush of flashbacks leading to a chilling revelation. Played by Pashupathy and Janani Iyer, the lead characters of Ma Chu Ka promise a nail-biting ride, complete with an alarming climax. ‘Ma Chu Ka’ is a crime thriller at the core and it has been filmed as a total entertainer,” says director Jayan Vannery.

‘Ma Chu Ka’, a Tamil-Malayalm bilingual, starts rolling at the farmhouse of retired SP Alexander Koshi in Munnar. “His friend Arivazhagan, an advocate from Chennai High Court, reaches there to pay a visit. But instead of Koshi he finds  young journalist Nivedita Hariharan. The film develops through their interactions,” says the director. He adds the film is high on suspense as the duo keep mentioning a mysterious third person. “There is an air of secrecy and tension from the very beginning,” he explains.

Arivazhagan has all the physical and emotional nuances of a Tamilian, says  Jayan on opting Pashupathy for the role. “It was not possible to cast a Malayali actor as the character demands a lot of subtlety,” he says.

Jayan adds Ma Chu Ka will be a unique cinematic experience in more ways than one. “We have tried to bring about a dash of freshness in all aspects. It’s a style and treatment Malayali audience are not used to, and then everything from the title to climax will evoke a sense of  interest,” he says.

Ma Chu Ka is a Brazilian word meaning intense pain and the director says it’s a title quite in sync with its subject. “Then Ma Chu Ka is also an acronym for Manja, Chuvappu, Karuppu. The three colours stand for love, vengeance and death and it’s how exactly the narrative progresses. Again, yellow, red and black signify noon, evening and night. Ma Chu Ka is a film that begins and winds up within 12 hours,” he says.

Apart from the making, Pashupathy’s performance and Gopi Sunder’s background score will be other highlights of the film, he adds. Ma Chu Ka produced by Rajesh Kulirma under the banner of Manikkoth Productions, will hit the screens shortly.
