Director Jis Joy says his second movie Sunday Holiday is a tribute to all aspiring film makers. And, he doesn’t mean just the young breed but the aged as well. That is one reason why the protagonist in his movie Sunday Holiday is an aged teacher named Unni Mukundan. Actor  Sreenivasan plays Unni Mukundan.

“As a part of Malayalam film industry, I always meet a lot of people who aspire to be a ‘cinemakkaran’. They include techies, teachers and government officials. My movie Sunday Holiday is about such a person. He is a very ordinary teacher who dreams to see his story being made into a movie,” says Jis.

What happens that Sunday..
Sunday Holiday, evidently, is a tale that happens on a particular Sunday.  As shown in the trailer, Sreenivasan somehow convinces film producer David  Paul, played by director Lal Jose, to listen to his story. What happens then on forms the crux of the movie.

Jis says he couldn’t think of anyone other than Sreenivasan to play his Unni Mukundan. “Sunday Holiday has a lot of references to movies. And, the name Unni Mukundan is one example. In fact, it is about movies and there are many such references, including Siddique’s character Nakkutty who writes dialogues for Telugu remake movies,” says Jis.

However, the highlight of the movie is its multi-layered narrative. Jis says his movie has many layers, but the narrative is simple and attractive. “In  fact, when I approached Sreenivasan with the script, he was in awe of this style. He readily agreed, which came as a huge relief for me because his  character is not replaceable. Only, he can play my Unni Mukundan to perfection,” says Jis Joy.
Director Lal Jose also plays an important character. “Unlike the other movies where he appeared in cameos, here Lal Jose plays a lengthy role. He plays himself in Sunday Holiday, only that his name is different,” says Jis.

Sunday Holiday has Asif Ali and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles. Alancier also plays a significant character.

The music
Like his debut Bicycle Thieves, Sunday Holiday will also have some good songs. “All four songs are written by me and composed by Deepak Dev. We have released a few songs and they all are well received. The movie will also mark the debut of Aravind Venugopal, son of singer Venugopal. He has sung the
melody Mazha Padum.. along with Aparna Balamurali.
