If there’s someone, actor Srikanth thinks, who doesn’t really fit into the scheme of things in Moser Baer’s production, Poo , it’s him. “I’m actually a misfit, because everybody else who’s part of the cast are geographically connected to the villages that the movie is set in,” the actor begins, as he speaks about his ‘truly first rural real movie’, Poo , which will hit screens this month end.
An actor who has managed to retain the lover boy image that Roja Kootam so easily won him, Srikanth says he knows what he wants to be. “If I’ve not tried doing serious commercial flicks, or preceding my name with a title, it’s because I choose to be better than that,” he says, revealing no particular fondness to be in the big commercial league. And that’s a decision his choice of movies, from Poo to Police Police, will stand by. Poo, an adaptation of writer Tamil Chelvan’s short story, has Srikanth, playing a close-to-life. In fact, the actor openly states that he isn’t the protagonist of the movie. “The story centres on Parvathi’s character, and that’s a fact I think people should understand and appreciate before they watch the movie,” he explains. “People were surprised at my decision to do a script as refreshingly different as this, but I chose it. Today, now that the movie is over, I’m only glad that I was a part of such a script which comes only one in a lifetime,” he adds.
On the other hand, his debut venture in Telugu, Police Police , tries to capture the psychic of a police officer, dwelling on his emotional and personal side. He teams up with Prithviraj for the second time (after Kana Kandein ), and the movie is all set to get released in Tamil as well. “And I’ve just completed work for Indira Vizha , in which he is paired with Namitha and Hemamalini (debutant). “I’ve just completed dubbing for this movie in Hyderabad and we’re looking at releasing it in a couple of months,” informs the actor. Indira Vizha , said to be inspired by the Hollywood flick Disclosure, centres on Namitha, who plays the owner of the company that Srikanth is part of, and how she wreaks havoc in his life, after a disagreement. “And then, there Rasikkum Seemane , which is purely a commercial flick in which I’m paired with Navya Nair,” adds the actor, saying he is not keen on repeating such commercial storylines. “I’d like to do more different roles, ones that are confidence-inspiring to the actor in me,” he adds. Poo , which the actor believes will test his capabilities in the genre of realistic films, hits screens on November 28.
