The glam girl of Kollywood Sona is all set to make heads turn but for a different reason. Speaking to the media, the buxom babe declared that she is turning entrepreneur with her new designer store called Uniq. So what’s so unique about yet another designer store in Chennai? Sona spills the beans.
For starters, it’s going to be inaugurated on January 9 by Shilpa Shetty, who has agreed to fly down, impressed by Sona’s line and range of products. “Shilpa was amazed at the product list we showed her. International brands not available in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai so far, will be found at my store. We will have only handpicked accessories from around the world and no two products will be the same,” says Sona. What’s more, some really big labels are going to be seen at the store, which is targeted mainly at the film, fashion and hi-end clientele who want to be exclusive and don’t mind paying for it. From the casual to the formal, the store will have all types of accessories, but none in precious stones nor metals. Sona reveals, “I won't be needing walk-ins to survive. As the brand develops we will also be manufacturing our own range soon.”
The store will have interiors in black, white and silver and Sona promises, “There is no other store like mine in Chennai.” Sona, who has acted in Mirugam, Sivapadikaram, Pathu Pathu and Kuselan apart from Malyalam and Telugu films, is confident she can handle both professions. “I have a great team and can control things from the shooting spot with a laptop. The idea is to keep busy always,” shrugs Sona, who is working with a staff of 32 to begin with.
Business is in her blood, claims Sona, who always like to be on top of things. So why did she come up with such an idea?
“I feel Chennai needs such a store where international accessories from bags and shoes to costume jewellery should be available. I will also cater to the film industry's costumers and even offer concessions if they want the entire film's look to be handled by us. If really hi-end stars want to hire stuff, we might explore that idea,” she says. All set to take off with her new project, Sona is also looking at expanding the business with branches in other cities. Glam girl or glam entrepreneur, Sona sure knows how to get the eyeballs and the moolah!
