MAYANDI Kudumbathar, the film which stars ten Tamil directors has completed its shooting. A grand audio launch is planned for April 10, before the release in May.

E Maduravan, the director elaborates on the experience of directing ten film directors, “All of them were very co-operative and understanding. Being directors and knowing the story, there were discussions between us during the shooting but everything was done in a constructive manner keeping the film in mind.”

The film stars Manivannan, Tarun Gopi (as hero), Seeman, Ravi Mariya (as villain), Nanda Perisamy, Eknath, Singampuli, Raj Kapoor, Ponvannan and GM Kumar. The camerawork is by Bala Bharani, a former assistant of MS Prabhu. This is the first time that an entire Tamil film has been shot using a shoulder or hand held camera, with no stand. Bharani explains why, “It’s a completely village based story and we wanted to capture that raw feeling of visiting a real village. We relied on natural light to further add to the realism.”

According to the team, this story about a big family, will give the feeling of Bhagapirivanai and Anbu Sahodarangal. Says the director, “What happens if a man is left on his own and is not settled in life with a partner chosen by his parents in their lifetime? The story dwells on this aspect.” Complete Madurai slang has been used and music is by Sabesh Murali. The film is based on real life incidents.
