MUDHAL Mudhal Mudhal Varai, touted to be Kollywood’s first metro movie, has bagged the Best International Film Award at the prestigious New York International Independent Film & Video Festival. Popularly known as M3V, the movie was directed by debutant Krishnan Seshadri Gomatam.

A metro movie, as it was called, it featured new actors but had seasoned technicians, from Fowzia Fathima cranking the camera to Thottatharani designing the sets. M3V was written and directed by Krishnan and produced under his own banner, Krsna Cinema.

The movie was screened at the New York Film Festival in March, and has won over entries from 30 countries and showcasing more than 200 films. It was the only Tamil film in the competitive section, and one of the two entries from India, the other being I am a Love Addict.

The movie has been screened at the International Film Festival of India in the Indian Panorama section, where it was widely appreciated for its novel theme. Despite being a hit at the international film markets, the film did not meet with commercial success in the state.

Speaking to Expresso, the director said "Mine was the only Tamil film to be screened at the festival. And the response was astounding. My film's run at the film festival circuit is only proof of the universality of its emotions," says the director, who is excited at being given this award for his first film.
