One can easily say that Venkata In Sankata is one of the best films released so far this year.

Ramesh Aravind, who handled the megaphone apart from playing the lead role, is at his best. With this film, Ramesh has proved his mettle again in handling comedy films. His earlier films are Rama Shyama Bhama and Satyavaan Saavithri. The best part about this film is that it will surely make you forget your mundane life for almost two-and-half hours. It takes you to a different world where you can laugh to your heart’s content.

The first half is a bit of a drag but the tempo lifts a bit postintermission, and is quite enjoyable.

Director, Ramesh has succeeded in extracting the required performances from all the artistes. He depicts Bangalore police as an inefficient and lackadaisical force in the first half but showcases them as a courageous lot in the climax. Veteran character artiste Umesh has got the best role during his career. His role as a ravenous granny stood out among the performances and his dialogue delivery and body language are perfect. The other stand-out actor is Devadas Kappikad, a wellknown theatre artiste in Mangalore. He can give other comedy artistes a run for their money if he acts in more Kannada films.

Kashi, as an absent-minded professor, has also provided good support. Umasri, Dattatreya and Karibasavaiah have all done justice to their respective roles. The other notable artiste is Madhu Thotapalli from Andhra Pradesh. He too can be an asset to Sandalwood. Scenes involving him and the cops are a treat to watch. As a palmist, his mannerisms and body language deserve appreciation.

It is all about Venkata (Ramesh), a police sub-inspector, who works hard to catch trouble-makers, but it is his friend Laddu Rajaram (Devadas Kappikad) who gets all the accolades, thanks to Commissioner of Police Single Simha (Mukhyamantri Chandru) who believes Rajaram to be an efficient police constable. Meanwhile, Single Simha orders Venkata to join a college as a student to investigate the smuggling of ammonium phosphate from the college laboratory. How Venkata succeeds in not only eliminating underworld don Iqbal, but also in rescuing college students and the prime minister (who attends a function), from antisocial elements is the climax of the movie. It is worth watching with your entire family and you can’t afford to miss it.
