HYDERABAD: Small wonder she is soaking in the success of her “dream debut” in Aa Okkadu in which she plays the role of a ‘criminal psychiatrist’ opposite villain turned actor Ajay. Actress Madhurima Banerjee looks like a woman who has been finally granted her secret wish. “I enjoyed every minute of it. Working with the director, SS Murthy and the actor, Ajay was simply awesome. I have learnt a lot from my director,” the svelte beauty says.

She has worked for a project each in Hindi and Telugu. Ask her how different are the environments? After Aa Okkadu, Madhurima is waiting for the next release in Bollywood, Toss, with Ashmit Patel, at the moment. “I don’t think there is much difference except Telugu films get wrapped up three months flat whereas Hindi movies take their own sweet time,” the actress says adding, “There people get up aaram se and go to the sets late. I’ve leant to be disciplined here. People are so warm and affectionate here. I am more comfortable working in Telugu films. I learn new things everyday.’’ As for her future plans, she plays a bit of tease, not saying anything beyond dropping vague hints about doing “meaningful films” and of course her studies. “I am in the 4th year of law. I’m in no hurry. I will do one film at a time,” she emphasises.

The actress has signed her second flick. She is paired up with young hero Tanish of Nachchavule and Ride fame in a new film Mounaragam.

Not many know that Madhurima is a good singer too. Her mother had taught her ghazals and even encouraged her to take up classical dancing. She learnt Kathak but had to give it up as her father who’s in the Indian Navy was on a transferable job.

Even while pursuing her plus two Madhurima took up acting in TV serials, anchoring as a part time job just to ge t comfortable with the camera. Her mother was a huge support to her.

And, yes, Madhurima has a message for debutantes fantasising about some airy-fairy godfather who can launch them into the blazing glory of stardom. “I didn’t need any godfather. Besides a godfather can take you up to a point. The rest depends on your talent, hard work and luck. I believe that we are all given opportunities and we have to make the best out of them.

But those opportunities are pre-destined. What we make of them then depends on us. Thus it’s a combination of luck and talent,’’ she signs off.
