Tirrupati Brothers’ 'Pattalam' will be releasing this Friday. For first time film director Rohan Krishna, the countdown spells anxiety. Though he has directed short films, ad films and the hugely successful TV serial 'Kana Kaanum Kalangal', Rohan Krishna gives us reasons for his stress, “This is a film with nine, young debutants. Nadiya is the only known star. Moreover, it’s a school-based subject, about the lives of nine school kids.  I am tense about how the audiences will receive this genre of film, that too with new faces.”

“Such a genre was explored in Tamil in films like 'Panneerpushpangal' and 'Thulluvado Illamai'. But my film is not an adolescent love story or coming of age film. 'Pattalam' is different,”says Rohan. His anxiety alternates with an upbeat mood as well. “I am confident about my script and the way the story has been handled. Though the actors are new, its their very freshness that makes the film watchable,” he shrugs. Rohan is not alone in his beliefs.

Apparently director Balaji Sakthivel spoke to him for an hour after seeing the preview and pointed out all the pluses of the film. “He said that it’s an entertaining film and the new cast has brought a natural touch to the film which is huge merit,” reveals Rohan. Directors Ameer, Venkat Prabhu, art director Rajeevan and cameraman Madhi are amongst those who saw the preview and liked it.

Rohan has more reason to cheer. Producer Lingusamy has taken up the distribution of his film as well. Rohan tells us why that’s a plus point for him, “It shows that he is confident  about the film based on his own views and that of those who have seen it so far.”

But how exciting can a school subject be for the average moviegoer who is more used to love, action, suspense and thrillers these days? Rohan gives us several reasons why audiences will want to watch this film. “'Pattalam' will make you think. There will surely be discussions in many families after seeing this film. It’s not just about school life or a love story with adolescents. We spoke to school kids throughout Tamil Nadu to learn about their lives, problems and situations they face. Some real life incidents have also been incorporated into the film. Parents cannot spend the day in schools to see what is happening there these days.

By seeing 'Pattalam', parents will get an inkling about what kids face each day and will be more sensitive to their needs. Kids on the other hand will learn the repercussions that can occur if they take rash decisions on the spur of the moment without thinking first. 'Pattalam' is a film that will take you back in memory to the mischievous days of your school life. But it will also open your eyes and make you sensitive to your family members.”

Looks like though he is anxiously  awaiting the 27th March release, Rohan Krishna is equally enthusiastic to see how his brave attempt towards reviving a genre bears fruit.
